Premium Self- Storage

A lot of storage facilities say they're temperature controlled but are only heated in the winter. Is your facility truly temperature controlled?

Our facility is heated in the winter and air-conditioned in the summer via a unique air filtering system. Humidity and temperature levels are monitored daily.

Is your storage facility secure?

We are equipped with a layer of security from cameras to commercial grade padlocks so that you can be sure that whatever you store will be stored securely.

What if it's raining outside? Do you have a covered area for unloading?

We have a loading bay where tenants can pull their cars or moving van into the privacy of the loading dock and shut the outside door to hold off the weather and prying eyes.

What about bugs and rodents? Do you have a plan in place to keep them at bay?

We have a regular maintenance schedule for pest control. However, we strive to keep our units dry as it is the humidity, which allows bugs to breed in damp cardboard as they might at other storage facilities that are not dehumidified.

How much are your units?

Our units are $140 +HST for a 10 X 10 and $200 +HST for a 10 X 20.

How long are the contracts?

Your tenancy with us can last as long or as short as you’d like but we ask for a minimum of 5 days’ notice before your departure.

Do you have movers?

No, unfortunately we do not.

When do I have access to my unit?

All tenants have 24/7 access to their units.

How high are the unit ceilings?

They are all 14ft high.

Do you keep a copy of the key to the lock for my storage unit?

No. First Stop Services will never keep a key to anyone’s storage unit or enter someone’s unit without permission. While renting with us, it is YOUR unit and therefore First Stop Services is not responsible for the belongings kept inside.

What happens if I lose my keys?

First Stop Services can have the lock removed for a fee of $75.00.

Is there a fee if I want you to pick up my boxes of documents at my home or office?

Yes, it is dependant upon size and location of the pick up.

Can I drop off my stuff to be shred anytime?

No. You may drop off your shred on Monday and Tuesday from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm and Wednesday 10 am to 12 pm.

Please pull up to the overhead door marked “Shredding Drop-Off”, ring the buzzer on the side of the door, and an associate will be out to get your documents.

If an associate is not available, there will be a note on the door advising people to call the office to let me know they are here.

What containers can I bring my papers in?

We accept any container and then we will calculate size and dimensions back to a banker box.

Are there a minimum number of boxes that I can bring in to be shred?

Bring as much or as little as you like and we’ll shred them for you – and we promise to give you a quote upfront – no surprises!

Do you provide Certificates of Destruction?

Yes we do. Just let us know before we begin the shredding process as there is a small additional fee for this document.

How much does a Certificate of Destruction cost?

A Certificate of Destruction costs $15 ($13.27 + HST).

Do we have to take out staples etc.?

Staples and small paper clips are fine. If you’d like us to remove binder covers, larger clips or other items which should be shred separately, we charge a small additional fee.

What happens to the paper after it is shred?

After your documents are shred, they are compacted into a secured, locked, steel bin, picked up and taken to a recycling centre where they are mulched and then recycled.

Are the paper shreds legible?

All of the shredded material is housed in our secure warehouse where only employees with proper screening and clearance may enter. Once the material leaves our warehouse, it is bleached and recycled. It is impossible to piece your documents back together because they are mixed in with dozens of other documents.

What security level of shredding do you provide and is there a difference?

We offer two different levels of shredding:

  1. Bulk Strip Cut 5/8″
  2. Cross Cut Type III A (RCMP Security Level Three)

Both levels are safe, but some industries (e.g. Government) require certain security levels due to their regulations. Clients may choose to shred at either level; however, pricing varies.

Shredding – on Pick up

Do I pay you?

You can choose to pay us (the driver) with a cheque or you can call the main office and pay with credit card over the phone.

How do I know how much it will be?

Please visit our Shredding Pricing page for more information.

Is your truck safe?

Yes, the truck is padlocked whenever it is unattended and only employees with proper screening and clearance are allowed inside the truck.

Can you come back next week?

Yes, if you call our main office they can schedule another pick up.

Why don’t you shred on-site?

We pride ourselves in being green and as we all know idling is horrible for the environment. We have adopted a secure process using our trucks and drivers, per industry standards, who will pick up your shredding onsite and will transport it back to our facility for destruction within 48 hours, unless otherwise specified.

Why does the cardboard have to be separate?

Cardboard and paper are recycled separately and therefore they must be shred separately.

Document Management

How do I know if document management is right for me?

Give us a call – we have many options for you!

What if I need a file at 7pm at night?

Clients can call our emergency line if they require a file during afterhours. There is a fee that is negotiated within the document management contract.

Can I come and pull files on my own?

No, we pride ourselves on being a secure facility, for this reason only employees are permitted to enter our document storage facility. If you wish to request a file and come pick it up at our office instead of having it delivered, this is another option.

How long is it before I receive my files once I have requested them?

We can deliver them as requested per our pricing within each contract, but typically files will arrive the next day, if the order is placed before 3:00pm.
